ADOPTING A HOLISTIC APPROACH

COLLASEL- WELLNESS APPROACH

Our skin has a dynamic structure that is ever-changing. Skin cells die to be replaced with new ones and we need to support this structure from within. Some lifestyle changes or adjustments will help maintain your skin’s condition in the long run. Make sure you adopt a balanced diet comprising lean proteins and healthy fats from oily fish and nuts. Walnuts are high in omega3 fatty acids and are especially known for boosting collagen production. Snack on antioxidant-rich fruits (the redder the fruit, the better!) and indulge in leafy green vegetables which provide skin benefits. Stay away from processed foods and eat as “clean” as you can. Take collagen supplements of 20 to 40 mg daily; either in liquid, gel, powder or tablet form. Finding one that is convenient for you to take will ensure your commitment to it and you will reap the benefits. Over time, you will notice that your skin feels firmer. Hyaluronic acid and probiotics are other supplements that can be taken orally. Remember to consult a doctor beforehand.

Try your hand at face yoga. It is only logical that stimulating face muscles, skin and lymphatic system will help with sagging and improve firmness, just as exercise does for our body. Don’t consider it a chore, rather indulge in the experience and make it feel like a ritual. Invest in quality face massage tools like gua sha stones, rollers and contouring wands to lift and tone your skin.

Last but certainly not least, getting ample sleep is vital as sleep deprivation lowers immune response, possibly affecting collagen production. Our skin makes new collagen as part of the repair process. Aim for at least 7 hours and replace your pillow case with a silk one to prevent sleep lines from forming. Then all that is left for you to do is blissfully drift off to your beauty sleep!
